$1500 Raised by Mapleton Junior High

Mapleton Jr High School recently raised $1500 dollars and donated it to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation in the name of Charlotte Mecham, mother of former vice-principal Darrel Mecham.
The student council created a legacy wall in honor of all the loved ones and friends the students know that have battled cancer. The money was raised by selling pizza and gum and having several pie-throws involving the student government officials.
Mr. Mecham thought he was coming to Mapleton Jr. to talk to the school about the new bus standards. He was surprised to find the whole school waiting for him in the gym.
In the assembly, intern assistant Principal Mrs. Burr talked about the battle her son had with cancer, and Mr. Wyatt, the coach teacher and student council advisor, spoke to the school about his battle against cancer in his high school years, saying, "If you think you’re beaten, you are. If you think you will win, you will."
Mr. Mecham was surprised with a giant check written out by the student government for $1500. Mr. Mecham’s mother battled cancer six times and lost her final battle. "It’s just what she would have wanted, to help other people with their challenges," said Mr. Mecham.
